Drainfast Launches New MuckStopper System

Delays caused by waiting for drains to be manually unblocked or a jetting company to turn up and clear the drains can eat into tight completion schedules.

Construction sites are muddy places. On roadways, soil carried by heavy plant mixes with rainwater to create silt and washes into manhole chambers, where it will build up until it causes a blockage. And while road sweepers maintain an outwardly clean and tidy road, they worsen the situation below the ground as they sweep more mud and dust towards the drains.

Elsewhere on the site, inspection chambers left unprotected can quickly fill up with mud, rubble and debris created by other trades after installing the drainage system.

A survey we recently took of over 350 building trade professionals showed that 98% agree that waste entering manholes on construction sites is having a negative impact on the environment and the water system. But this has been almost impossible to prevent, and with large volumes of muck entering the system, clearing the drains once construction is complete can be costly, time-consuming and even dangerous.

With the innovative new MuckStopper range from Drainfast, most of the debris can be captured and easily removed at little cost or effort.

MuckStopper RS 675

The MuckStopper RS 675 acts as an easily-fitted secondary manhole cover, creating a watertight barrier to protect the drains. With integral, lay-flat handles that save space and increase grip, the rugged lid enables chamber access while keeping out silt, dirt and debris. When the construction project is completed, any muck held by the MuckStopper 600 can be easily and quickly removed without the cost of manually clearing the drains (which also puts workers at risk in confined spaces) or jetting.

The MuckStopper 600 is made from durable zinc-coated mild steel. Once its task is completed in one location it can be removed and redeployed on another project, time and again, with a lifespan of several years.

MuckStopper IC 450

The MuckStopper 450 is used for 450mm diameter inspection chambers, working in a similar way to the MuckStopper RS 675 to prevent muck and debris from entering the chamber, but with some design differences.

Made from polypropylene for lightweight durability, it features a bucket-shaped central body to capture dirt and debris efficiently. When this is full, a specially-designed extraction pole attaches to an access hook on the bucket so it can be hoisted to ground level and emptied.

The perimeter of the MuckStopper 450 is ringed with two layers of bristles to create a snug fit in chambers from all major brands and to allow water to pass through while trapping debris.

The MuckStopper 450 Storage Unit will hold up to 12 MuckStoppers and is stackable to a height of three storage units. One of the key benefits of using the storage unit – apart from secure and easy storage and transportation, of course – is that the MuckStoppers can be counted out and counted back again, ensuring that none are left behind in inspection chambers. The MuckStopper Storage Unit is also fully compatible with the SiteStak® secure storage system from Drainfast.

Why Use MuckStopper?

Save on costs

Paying workers to manually unblock drains is an inefficient use of labour while jetting can be expensive. If drains are damaged by blockages or attempts to remove them, there will be added remedial works costs.

Think also about the indirect costs passed onto local authorities and water companies who have to deal with the problems caused by blockages downstream, and the extra burden this puts on taxpayers and utilities customers.

Save on time

Delays caused by waiting for drains to be manually unblocked or waiting for a jetting company to turn up and clear the drains can eat into tight completion schedules.

In a worst-case scenario, severely blocked or damaged drains may need to be dug up and re-laid.

Save on worrying

Have you ever lost sleep over what might be happening underground and out of sight? MuckStopper will ensure those nasty thoughts don’t seep into your dreams!

Save on safety

Working in confined spaces of sewage systems, where there is a risk of toxic fumes and gases, puts workers in danger. Using MuckStopper minimises the time they need to spend in those hazardous environments.

Save on reputation

Undetected blockages and damages to drains are responsible for unwanted call-backs and complaints that will damage your reputation. Whether you are a drainage contractor or a housebuilder, you can ensure customer satisfaction with MuckStopper. Or as we like to say – “The Muck Stops Here!”
