In this article, we will outline the cost involved in investing in the MuckStopper system on your sites. We are working on multiple products to resolve the issue of mud and rubble blocking drains of all sizes. However, we currently have the MuckStopper 450 in stock and available to purchase so this article will focus on that product.

The whole MuckStopper system is built to last and can be used on multiple phases of a project or multiple projects.

Will MuckStopper provide a return on investment?

The MuckStopper is not simply a better way of protecting your drainage system; it also saves you time and money and improves your reputation as a quality building firm. Here are some costs that can be saved by using the MuckStopper system:

  • Reduced Jetting Costs - we appreciate that most sites allow for drainage jetting and camera surveys, but with the MuckStopper in use, the amount of jetting will be drastically reduced. This will offer a cost saving in terms of jetting hire and can prevent delays to your schedule.
  • Prevents manually clearing inspection chambers - as anyone with experience in the building industry will be aware, when inspection chambers are found to be full of muck towards the end of a project, one of the common ways of clearing them is to reach into them to scrape the debris out manually. Some contractors use post-hole diggers or trowels for this or improvise tools to reach into the chambers. All of this is time-consuming and can be avoided with the MuckStopper system in place.
  • Suction excavators or road sweeper cost - another method of clearing out inspection chambers, especially deeper ones, is to use the suction hose on a suction excavator to extract muck, rubble and other debris from the bottom of inspection chambers. This involves further costs with machinery hire and labour costs and distracting machines from keeping the roads free of mud.
  • Replacing or reinstating drains - in cases where inspection chambers have deflected or the chambers have been damaged by rubble falling in it can be necessary to excavate the entire chamber and replace it or reinstall that section of drainage. The time and monetary cost of this reworking can be significant.
  • Your reputation is at stake - particularly in the case of housebuilding sites; the last thing a new homeowner wants is to find blocked drains. It is not unheard of, however, and it is much better to avoid disgruntled customers causing a scene at the sales office or taking to social media to lament the problems they are facing in their new home. Take ‘blocked drains’ off the snagging list and improve your reputation as a quality housebuilder!
  • Peace of mind - why face the uncertainty of not knowing how big a problem is developing across your sites as the drains block up during the building works? Sleep easy knowing that you have a system in place protecting your drains on every site.

No project manager likes to find that the drains are blocked at the end of a project. It’s another problem that delays the site handover and can be costly to rectify. You will probably be more familiar with the costs involved in the workarounds you use on your sites. However, we have done some research and found that the typical cost of jetting is around £600 to £800 per day.

DF GROUNDWORKS

"Without the MuckStopper, you're left with the problem of everything falling down the manhole. When the lines are in use, it's then pushed down the line. Later in the process, you've got to get everyone out to sort the problem out, which is very expensive and not ideal, whereas using the MuckStopper, you know, you're saving yourself a massive amount of money. It's a good idea."

“I've had twelve MuckStoppers on demo for the last twelve weeks, and they seem to be working very well. I think it's a well-constructed product, I can't see how it can't work; basically, anything that works that's going to stop us cleaning out the lines at the end of the job has got to be beneficial. It's got to save money at the end of the day.”
